Trophy hunting in Pakistan is widely studied as a successful global conservation model. Rather than encouraging poaching, the government issues a strictly limited number of annual permits. The majority of the permit funds are deposited directly with local high-altitude villages and community organizations. This incentivizes local populations to protect the wildlife and their alpine ecosystems from illegal hunting, resulting in stable and increasing populations of Astore Markhor and Siberian Ibex.
All hunts are tightly monitored by government observers and local community game scouts. The permits allow a single hunter to harvest a single mature animal. Because of the extremely low quotas, reservations and paper filings must be completed months in advance.
Trophy hunting permits are strictly regulated by conservation status and export classifications below:
Horns and skins can be legally exported under CITES approvals:
Subject to specific agricultural tusks export documentation:
Hunting is permitted under state quotas, but export of trophies is prohibited:
Arrive at Islamabad International Airport. Meet and assist, secure customs weapon clearance verification, and transfer to hotel. Evening city tour of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Overnight at hotel.
Drive on the scenic Karakoram Highway (KKH) towards Besham. En-route we will stop to view historical petroglyphs/stone carvings in Chilas and pass by viewpoints of Nanga Parbat and Rakaposhi peaks. Overnight at hotel.
Travel by road or chartered mountain flight to the designated conservancy area. Hike or trek into the highland habitats guided by veteran community game scouts. Once inside the conservancy, spend 2 to 3 days scouting, locating, and securing the target big game. After a successful harvest, return to the nearest town hotel. Overnight at hotel.
